My role, My approach

Code de déontologie

The reasons for what we call "annoying behavior" can be diverse and the factors are often multiple, but they are always a sign that something is wrong with the cat.

Therefore, it is useless  to act on him by constraint or coercion. The cat always has a legitimate reason for behaving the way it does. In addition, being a very sensitive animal, the slightest tension or change in his daily life can easily disturb him. The punishment will have no meaning for the cat who will take this kind of act as an aggression. This will only degrade the cat-human relationship, stress the cat even more and is likely to make troublesome behavior worse.

Unfortunately, many preconceived ideas about the cat are circulating ("wickedness" or "dominance" are not current with him. He does not seek to "bother" humans either) and a lot of bad advice is given. on his upbringing, especially on the internet (slap on the muzzle, put his nose in the pee to make him understand that "it's bad", "spush" with a spray bottle or water gun, yell at him, etc.), which in no way improves the understanding between our two worlds which is already full of communication misunderstandings...

It will be much more constructive to try to decipher the causes of his behavior based on observable facts and his ethological needs, to learn to interpret his signals and provide him with an appropriate response.

My advice is essentially based on what surrounds the relationship of the cat with others (human, congeners, other species), on the development of the environment (in which it will be able to express its needs as a cat in an acceptable way also for the humans who live there and that will incite it to the desired behaviors) and by using positive reinforcement (rewarding the good behaviors that the cat performs in order to encourage it to reproduce them again).

We will thus be able to improve his condition as a domestic cat in all BENEVOLENCE and you will be able to take (or resume) a new start with your little feline.

Understanding how your cat works will help you communicate with it and provide it with the well-being it deserves.
